A good, or properly-performed makeup removal routine, is the secret of a healthy and beautiful skin. It turns out that we tend to make lots of mistakes unconsciously, ending up with blemishes. Do you know how to remove makeup products the right way to enjoy a flawless facial skin?
An appropriate makeup removal is a basis for the daily skin care routine. The first, must-follow rule says you can never go to sleep with your makeup on. The skin repair is the strongest at night – nourishing and fixing processes are the most intensive. The clean skin and a proper skin care product make for its health and appearance. Moreover, at night, there is a delivery of the new oxygen so deep skin layers can be fixed: the intercellular cement doesn’t lose its power as quickly. At night, the body has the time for regeneration so you simply must let your skin rest. An unwashed makeup prevents the skin from breathing; the skin functions are disturbed. What should a proper makeup removal look like?
Getting round to makeup removal, take products off in the following order:
- Eye-makeup removal.
- A facial makeup-removing product.
- A face-washing gel or mousse.
- A facial toner.
- Serum, facial creams, eye creams.
Eye & face makeup removal – step by step
1. Start with removing the eye makeup – you usually wear most makeup products on your eyelids and eyelashes. If you don’t take a mascara off at the beginning, it will smudge while you remove face makeup products e.g. foundation.
Be very gentle while removing eye makeup – no rubbing. Why? It would lead to the occurrence of wrinkles and hugely weaken the condition of eyelashes and even irritate the skin. After all, the skin on eyelids produces less sebum which would protect it from damage.
The best eye-makeup removers mean no need for rubbing the skin. The bi-phase products are usually the most effective, taking makeup off and protecting the skin. You must gently press a cotton pad, soaked in a remover, to the skin for a few seconds. The product is going to dissolve all coloured cosmetics.
2. Washing the face skin with a makeup-removing milk is another key step. A cleansing milk is greasy and has a rich formula which picks up heavy molecules of a foundation. The cleansing milk emulsifies the sebum and purifies the skin. You can apply the milk to a cotton pad first. However, spreading it directly on the skin is a much better trick – in this way, the milk binds with makeup build-up better and absorbs more impurities and sebum. What’s more, removing makeup from hard-to-reach places (like nose wings) will be easier. Eventually, wash the milk off with water.
Instead of a cleansing milk, feel free to use natural oils which are great for emulsifying greasy makeup products. You wash the oil off with a damp cloth (rinse it out after each use).
3. A face cleansing gel is a must, especially if you have acne-prone, combination or oily skin. It is best for removing all impurities, sebum excess and toxins that have settled throughout the day. Moreover, the pH of a given gel corresponds to the pH of your skin type thus it regulates the acid-base balance. That is why never wash your face with a soap which has an alkaline pH.
Apply the gel to your hands and gently massage it into the damp skin. After a few seconds, wash it off with lukewarm water and towel-dry the skin. Let’s move on to the next step.
4. A toner is one of the leave-in products. Apply it with a cotton pad or (if it’s spray) spritz it on. Choose a toner right for your skin type and pay attention to the ingredients – the more natural, the better. There are toners for mature, acne-prone, vascular and combination skin as well as soothing and moisturising toners.
5. Applying a cream is the final stage of the skin care. You must choose it carefully because this is a product which should transport lots of nourishing and repairing ingredients deep inside the skin, moisturising, smoothing and protecting it at the same time. A facial serum intensifies the cream working. If you have mature or problematic skin, the serum makes a perfect choice because the fluid formula and tiny particles are able to penetrate deeper skin layers than a moisturiser. These two products enhance each other. In combination with an eye cream, they make up the key to the game-changing skincare routine.
