popping-acne-pimples.jpgNicotine addiction and using sunbeds regularly leave us with skin damage in an obvious way. However, few of us realize that e.g. skin over-exfoliation or using several antiaging products at the same time have an equally bad influence on skin. Find out what else harms your face skin.

1. Popping pimples

A pimple is visible on skin only for a few days. On the other hand, the redness and brown spots after popping it may stay on the skin for several years.

Popping pimples intensifies acne and leads to scars. To speed up the healing of pimples, you must use specially-designed pharmacy products or ones available at cosmetic stores. Zinc cream with salicylic acid is the cheapest and really effective. If acne gets really bothersome, you should see a dermatologist.

2. Licking lips

Some people who have very dry lips need to feel the permanent moisture on them. If there’s no lip balm around, they compulsively lick their lips. This moisture-boosting thing is ineffective and makes the situation worse because once water in saliva evaporates, it leaves lips dry and chapped.

To keep lips moisturised and smooth, we must go for Aloe or Shea butter-enriched lip balms.

3. One application of a sunblock

Even the highest-factor cream won’t deliver skin protection if it’s applied just once. Interestingly, SPF 50 products give just a bit better protection than SPF 30 creams (which block 95% of UV radiation).

To provide yourself with effective sun protection, apply a sunblock 30 mins before the sun exposure, reapply every 2-4 hours and every time you get out of water.

4. Too much face skin exfoliation

Exfoliation is indicated especially for oily or acne-prone skin. In this case, using a scrub even twice a week is a must. Normal and sensitive skin will do with just once-a-week exfoliation. The key thing is you replace coarse-grain scrubs with mild ones e.g. enzymatic.

Exfoliating face skin too often leads to the occurrence of spots and other irritations. Moreover, it destroys the protective coat of the skin so the new epidermis has no time for repair. As a consequence, skin becomes oversensitive to irritations and you end up with inflammation and premature ageing.
